Transcript levels of phytoene desaturase gene in Dunaliella salina Teod. as affected by PbS nanoparticles and light intensity
Authors
Abstract:
Phytoene synthase (Psy) and Phytoene desaturase (Pds) are the first two regulatory enzymes in the carotenoids biosynthetic pathway. The genes Psy and Pds are under transcriptional control in many photosynthetic organisms. In the present study, using quantitative real time- PCR (qRT-PCR), the effects of uncoated and gum-Arabic coated PbS nanoparticles (GA-coated PbS NPs) and light intensity on the mRNA levels of Pds were investigated. Relative to mRNA level of Pds at 100 µmol photon m-2 s-1 light intensity (control culture), 2.2-fold increase in transcript levels occurred after 12 h of exposure to higher light intensity, which is significantly (P

Synthesis and coating of nanosilver by vanillic acid and its effects on Dunaliella salina Teod.
Plant phenolics have high reducing capacity which can be exploited in the synthesis of nanomaterials. In the present study, phytoreductant vanillic acid is used to produce and coat silver nanoparticles. The effects of Ag nanoparticles on the unicellular green algae D. Salina were then investigated. Under optimum pH and temperature, silver ions were reduced to silver metal by vanillic acid. The...
full textTomato and Tobacco Phytoene Desaturase Gene Silencing by Virus-Induced Gene Silencing (VIGS) Technique
Background and Aims: Virus-Induced Gene Silencing (VIGS) is a virus vector technology that exploits antiviral defense mechanism. By infecting plants with recombinant viruses containing host genes inserted in the viral genome, VIGS achieves the RNA silencing process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) and tobacco (Nicotiana be...
full textGrowth and pigment development of Dunaliella salina Teod. in response to ammonium nitrate nutrition
The microalgae, Dunaliella salina was isolated from Maharlu Salt Lake, south east of Shiraz, Iran. The isolated strain was identified by both morphological and physiological markers. The complete ITS region (ITS1 + ITS2) including the 5.8S rDNA gene used as molecular marker confirmed our identification. Growth and cell proliferation, total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents were determined in ...

full textComparison of the responses of two Dunaliella strains, Dunaliella salina CCAP 19/18 and Dunaliella bardawil to light intensity with special emphasis on carotenogenesis
Dunaliella salina and Dunaliella bardawil are well known for carotenogenesis, the overproduction of carotenoids, under stress conditions. The effect of high light (HL) and low light (LL) on the growth, morphology, photosynthetic efficiency, and the β-carotene and zeaxanthin production of D. salina CCAP 19/18 and D. bardawil was investigated and compared. Both strains showed similar growth kinet...
